Modica is easily reached from Catania Airport in less than two hours, with a direct bus for seven to nine euros. By car, the SS115 from Ragusa is a twenty-minute drive.
From Catania Airport
The most convenient option
Catania Fontanarossa Airport is the main airport in Eastern Sicily and the natural gateway to Modica. It is connected to all of Europe with direct flights from Ryanair, EasyJet, Vueling, Lufthansa, Air France, British Airways, and many other airlines.
From Comiso Airport
Thirty kilometers away — when available
Comiso "Pio La Torre" Airport is located just thirty kilometers from Modica. Flights are limited — mainly Ryanair and Wizz Air from Northern Italy during the season — but the short distance makes it very convenient when available.

By Train
Not recommended for tourism
Modica has a train station on the Ragusa–Siracusa line. Trains are slow, infrequent, and often delayed — from Catania, it takes two to three hours with a change in Siracusa. The bus is always faster, cheaper, and more convenient. If you still want to use it: the station is about one kilometer from the historic center.
Once you arrive
How to get around town
Modica is divided into two parts: Modica Bassa, along Corso Umberto I where shops, bars, and restaurants are concentrated, and Modica Alta, perched on the hill with the Duomo di San Giorgio at its center. The two areas are connected by monumental staircases and a winding road. Walking from the Corso to the Duomo di San Giorgio takes about fifteen minutes uphill — but it's worth it.
The intercity bus terminal — the arrival point for all buses from Catania, Ragusa, and Siracusa — is located in Piazza Falcone e Borsellino, in the heart of Modica Bassa, fifty meters from Corso Umberto I. If you arrive by bus, you are already in the center.
By Car
Where to park
The historic center of Modica is narrow and steeply sloped: bringing a car into the alleys of Modica Alta is not recommended. The best options for those arriving by car are these.
Getting Around from Modica
Local transport and surrounding areas
Modica is an excellent starting point for visiting the Val di Noto. Ragusa Ibla is only fifteen kilometers away, Scicli twenty, Noto fifty. In summer, SAIS buses connect Modica with Marina di Modica every two hours from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM, with night services until 3:50 AM. The AST 668 line also reaches Pozzallo and the coast.
For those traveling without a car, the Moovit app shows real-time schedules, changes, and cancellations for all AST and SAIS lines. Tickets can be purchased online at saisautolinee.it or at authorized resellers in the city. The first bus from Modica to Catania Airport departs at 04:15 — useful for those with early morning flights.
