Il Treno del Barocco 2026

Carrozze Centoporte degli anni '30 che attraversano il Val di Noto UNESCO.
Da Siracusa a Modica e Ragusa, su una linea ottocentesca.

HomeHow to get there › Baroque Train — Complete Guide

Since 2005, the Fondazione FS Italiane has been taking tourists into the heart of the Val di Noto aboard a vintage historic train. It's not just transportation: it's a cultural experience that begins the moment you step onto the train.

The "Centoporte" carriages from the 1930s, with their original wooden seats, are pulled by a vintage livery diesel locomotive along the splendid 19th-century railway line that crosses the Iblean landscapes, carob fields, and Baroque cities declared UNESCO World Heritage in 2002. On board, Slow Food Sicily tells the story of the territory through its typical local products.

⚠️
Seasonal Calendar: the Treno del Barocco (Fondazione FS, historic train) typically publishes its dates from August, with runs on summer weekends and during December's ChocoModica event. 2026 dates are not yet available — we will update this page as soon as they are released.

Operational from April 2026

Barocco Line 2026 — every Sunday and holiday

Don't wait until August to travel by train between Baroque cities. Trenitalia's Barocco Line is a different service from the Treno Storico: it connects Siracusa to Castello di Donnafugata every Sunday and holiday from April to September, stopping at Fontane Bianche, Avola, Noto, Pozzallo, Scicli, Modica, Ragusa Ibla, and Ragusa. In 2025, it operated from April 25th to September 28th — the 2026 calendar will follow the same schedule.

Barocco Line vs. Treno del Barocco: these are two different things. The Barocco Line is a regular Trenitalia holiday train, operational from April. The Treno del Barocco is the historic train from Fondazione FS with 1930s Centoporte carriages — operational from August, by reservation, with limited capacity.

In Modica during your stop

What to do during the 2-hour visit

The stop in Modica allows for a guided tour of the historic center. The typical program includes: the Palazzo della Cultura (home of the Chocolate Museum), the Church of the Carmine, the Cathedral of San Giorgio, the Church of San Giovanni Evangelista, and the Church of the Savior.

🍫
Chocolate
Chocolate shops are located on Corso Umberto I. Antica Dolceria Bonajuto (1880) is the most famous.
🏛
San Giorgio
The Baroque cathedral, a symbol of Modica, is a 10-minute walk from the station. The staircase is spectacular.
🚕
Shuttle
A shuttle service is provided between the train station and the historic center of Modica.
